Francis Poulenc was a member of a group of young french composers who called themselves "Les Six".His music is now played all over the world and he has come to be regarded as one of the 20th century's most significant composers.Carl Schmidt's catalogue of the works of Poulenc is the first and it comprises approximately 185 compositions written from his teenage years until his death in 1963. Each work is described in detail and this book also reveals how much Russian interest there was in Poulenc's music.

Francis Poulenc: The Man and His Songs

This book, written by the French baritone Pierre Bernac who together with Poulenc formed a duo which lasted from 1935 until 1959 when Bernac retired from the concert platform. This was a major influence on Poulenc's song writing and more than two thirds of his total vocal compositions were for Bernac to sing.In this book Bernac pays tribute to Poulenc as a man and as a musician and there is a detailed account of every song together with the unique account of their performance.
