The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music is an internationally recognised body providing examinations in music. Based in London , the ABRSM runs exam centres all over the world and is one of the 3 examination boards accredited by Ofqual to award graded and diploma qualifications on the UK National Qualifications Network, the others being the London College of Music and Trinity Guildhall
ABRSM offers diplomas in three disciplines:
- Music Performance
- Music Direction
- Instrumental/Vocal Teaching
and for each ther are 3 levels of diploma;
- DipABRSM (Diploma of The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music)
- LRSM (Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music)
- FRSM (Fellowship of the Royal Schools of Music)
Providing motivation and encouragement to pupils the examinations consist of;
- Prep test designed to offer the youngest candidates a gentle introduction into the exam situation
- Graded music exams 1- 8 practical and theory
- Diplomas are professional qualifications in conducting, performance and instrumental and vocal teaching
- Jazz grades 1 - 5 for piano, flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, trombone and jazz ensembles
- Music Medals are exams for group taught pupils in the early stages
- Ensembles are exams for duets to ensemble groups
- Choral singing exams are open to all sorts of choirs who may choose their own repertoire
